Your child needs to be given the chance to learn to swim. The most important reason is that swimming is the only sport which can save your child's life. ... Drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death in children, so being able to swim is an essential life-saving skill.
At The Brent Primary School we want all children to be proficient swimmers by the time they transition to secondary school. Our school pool is in use during the Summer Term and children from Year 1 to Year 6 have timetabled lessons.
For the 2017 to 2018 academic year, the Government has introduced a new condition requiring schools to publish how many pupils within their Yr 6 cohort are meeting the national curriculum requirement for swimming and water safety. The table below will be updated when swimming commences.
This requirement is that children are able to
swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
use a range of strokes effectively
perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
