IGNITE is The Brent's bespoke curriculum, tailored to the interests of our children while ensuring that the requirements of the National Curriculum are met. Through IGNITE, the knowledge and skills of the National Curriculum are addressed via a range of exciting topics which are cross curricular, allowing the subject matter to be covered in creative, meaningful ways that are relevant to the children. Teaching and learning in IGNITE is approached in a variety of ways, ranging from whole class lessons to small groups or individual work, using appropriate materials and resources. Progression and continuity are carefully planned for, drawing on the key knowledge and skills as set out in our IGNITE curriculum statements for each year group in each subject.
At The Brent, our prime aim is for our pupils to become ambitious, enthusiastic, confident, reflective, lifelong learners. In order to achieve this, we strive to provide compelling learning experiences, in real and relevant contexts. Through these, our goal is for our pupils to recognise, for themselves, the importance of learning to their lives both now and in the future.
Our curriculum is underpinned by the core British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and the tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. These are promoted through our topics, where appropriate, and explicitly taught where necessary.
The development of our pupils is brought about by a range of interwoven experiences that are built on by home and school; working together in partnership and understanding.
