I joined the Governing Body in July 2015, and it was a great privilege to be elected to the role of Chair of Governors in November 2016, taking over from Peter Harper who did a fantastic job supporting everyone at The Brent for over 20 years.
My first involvement with the school was when I worked for a children's reading charity, and I was always struck by the special atmosphere at The Brent.
I am a former borough councillor for Stone ward, and spent a lot of time in that role meeting and talking with Brent parents.
I am very pleased to be able to maintain my links with the area, and also to put my knowledge of schools, built up over the years, to good use. I was a school governor at my sons’ primary and secondary schools, and then became Clerk to the Governors at a nearby comprehensive school.
I trained as a journalist and worked as a reporter and sub-editor for a many years. I have also worked for several charities, including Victim Support, and I now work for a mental health charity in Dartford.
The Brent has a dedicated staff and fantastic pupils, and with the expansion to 3-form entry this is an exciting and important time to be leading the Governors.

My family has a long association with the Brent School. My late uncle became a pupil over a hundred years ago in 1914 and my late father was Head Boy in 1928/29. My sister and I followed as pupils in the 1950's and 60's and I joined the Governing Body of the school at the beginning of the 1980's. The Brent has always had a good reputation within the local community and I have been anxious to do all that I could to maintain and enhance that reputation. The Governing Body has a very good relationship with both the Headteacher and all the rest of the staff working within the school. This allows us to be the "critical friend" analysing and questioning the progress the school is always striving to make.
I have recently retired after sixteen years as an Administration Manager within the Crown Prosecution Service.

Through monitoring and maintaining a close relationship with the Head Teacher and the teaching staff I can ensure that the school continues to grow and improve and that our children are given the best opportunities possible.
Having originally qualified as a Probation Officer I currently work as a Practice Tutor, training and assessing Probation staff. I have previously undertaken voluntary work mentoring young people and working with children with special needs and am passionate about children meeting their potential.
Having worked with vulnerable people and devised safeguarding training at work, I am delighted to be the Safeguarding Governor at the school. I strongly believe in the responsibility of the school in nurturing the children to be happy, fulfilled individuals.

I have been a Statistician within Central Government since 2001 and I have had the privilege to work in a number of Government departments in a number of very interesting and demanding roles. Through my time as a statistician, along with undertaking various corporate roles, I have developed a very strong skill set in analysis, staff management, programme and project management, and strategic planning. I have been a member of the PSFA committee since 2015; I am committed to supporting the school in giving all children an enjoyable time and the best opportunities. I have worked in the Early Years sector for 18 years and have a passion for ensuring children achieve the best outcomes early in life. I am a 44 year old father of two of which my youngest is currently at The Brent. I work as a Business Development Director within the private sector. I feel that I cast an independent eye over the workings of the school and bring a fresh perspective to the work of the existing governors. I believe that the first years of a child’s education are crucial to their later academic achievements and the development of social and other life skills.
